Six Month Reflections

Jayden is now six months old! I am amazed at how fast he is learning new things but even more amazing is what he teaches us about ourselves. I have learned that I am so selfish and at the absolute same time I am crazy about this little guy. I am reminded constantly that he is a gift from God Himself. We are so thankful that we have been entrusted to raise him. He just spent his first night away from mommy and daddy and I must say we all did quite well! Thanks Gram and Pop! Jayden just had his six month check up and all was well with him, even the shots were okay. He is 19lbs. 10oz. (75th-90th percentile) and almost 27 inches long (50th percentile). A "healthy chubby" as I like to call it.

Work has been going pretty well. Again, I am learning so much. I am working with two families who are adopting from China and one who has just adopted from the Ukraine. I have completed one domestic adoption and have had one fall through at the last minute. I am also working with two other young women who are facing a crisis pregnancy. The last couple of months have challenged me to look at adoption in a different way.

I now understand at least one purpose in God allowing couples to experience infertility. I have seen so much pain in their empty arms and have seen a glimpse of their years of heartache that I will never know. However, the truth is that these couple are fulfilling the mandate to look after "orphans in their distress." My question is...are these couples the only ones that are mandated to do this? I think the answer is a loud "no!" After all, we don't just become parents to meet a need of our own. We are entrusted to care for children and to raise them in the training and instruction of the Lord. Needless to say, I am challenged and am challenging you to consider the call to care for the abandoned orphans oversees and even the babies in the U.S. who will be placed for adoption by a loving and indescribably selfless birth mother.

He's Growing Too Fast!

Forgive us for being such bad bloggers. Our camera is broken so these are actually pictures we have taken with our camera phones. Hope you enjoy and I hope to post some more soon! Jayden is getting so big and he is so much fun! He is about 18 pounds and 26.5 inches long. He loves to smile and roll over (but gets upset when he can't roll back). We are so happy that we have such a sweet little boy!

It's Been Too Long...

Well, I know it's been way too long since I've posted so I'm just gonna put some pics on really quickly. As you can see Jayden is getting chubbier and happier by the day! He is such a joy in our lives.

Jayden and His Girls...

Paige Parks loves Baby Jayden. She got to hold him for the first time a few days ago and she was very excited. Jayden has also been able to hang out in the bumbo chairs with his friend Olivia Brazier.

Two Months Old

Here are a few recent pictures...Jayden is now 11lbs 12oz (50th percentile) and 24 inches long (75th percentile). He is smiling a ton and getting cuter by the day! Thanks for letting us brag a little...

Family Reunion

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Okay so I had a "Rookie-Mom" moment last week. I took Jayden to the park to walk with Annie Parks and her girls, something we do pretty often these days. Except on this particular day baby Jayden had a major blow-out before I could even get him out of the car. Yes, I could actually tell their was a blow-out before I even unbuckled him from his carseat. So, as I go to get his change of clothing out of the diaper bag I realize that their is no change of clothing to be found. Being the creative person that I am I decided that I did not need to waste time going home to get clothes for my little 5 week old baby. Instead, I decided that it was completely appropriate to get Jayden cleaned up and just drape him with a burp cloth. Yes, I allowed my tiny baby to wear a burp cloth for our two mile walk. Hope you like the picture-he looks rather confused doesn't he??? Don't worry, I kept his sun shade over him so he didn't even see the light of day!

Big Test Week

Well this week has proven to be a testing a good way. On Jayden's 3 week birthday he decided he wants to be like daddy and try something new...he rolled over unassisted! At first we thought it was a coincidence but he proved us wrong for the first time and did it again! Wow! Friday of this week he had a Dr's appt that went great. Jayden weighs in at 9 lbs and is 21 and a half inches long and is healthy. We found out that he is in the 25th percentile in the weight class and is in the 50th percentile in the height or length category. Promise in a couple of weeks he will be a chunk of love! But the biggest test of the week came on Friday evening, I had to come to Atlanta for work and we decided to come a couple of days early to visit Lance and Julia Black, Portia Profitt and Alex Page in Clarkesville GA. So Friday night we took our first family road trip....7hrs from Mobile to Georgia. We prepared for a tough trip but it turned out to be a smooth one. We stopped in Montgomery for Jayden's dinner then stopped again North of Atlanta for his midnight snack. We made it to Habersham safe and sound. Wow I've written too much...maybe I should treat this like a text message and short code my sentences. Any hoo....thanks for reading and stay posted.
